The Apiary at Bayshore Medical Center
Please join us in fundraising in support of The Apiary at Hackensack Meridian Bayshore Medical Center. Bayshore Medical Center strives to be an active and contributing member of our local community. The Apiary at Bayshore Medical Center is a signature project of our Sustainability Committee.
The Apiary at Bayshore Medical Center will turn unused space on the hospital’s roof in beautiful Holmdel, NJ - the perfect location due to flourishing local flora and fauna - to give bees a chance to thrive, as well as increase education and awareness about sustainability issues. In addition, The Apiary will support pollination in our surrounding communities, benefiting every family-run farm, home gardens, and natural plant growth. Bees are the greatest pollinators and a critical part of our ecosystem. According to bee experts at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, one-third of the world’s food production depends on bees. Frighteningly, bee populations have been declining around the globe.
Apiaries established at other Hackensack Meridian Health facilities, including Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Ocean University Medical Center, are thriving and have been welcomed by the hospitals' teams and surrounding communities.
Donor funding is critical to establish The Apiary and keep it operational for: roof preparations, acquiring the Queen Bee and bees to establish the hive, purchasing all supplies: a ten-frame hive, beekeeping suits, bee smoker, and more, short-term consulting and training by an expert Beekeeper, installing raised flowerbeds, providing long-term needs: apiary maintenance, replacement supplies, honey collecting including jars, labels, and more.
You can make a donation online by clicking the blue Donate Now button or checks can be sent to Bayshore Medical Center Foundation, 343 Thornall Street, 7th Floor, Edison, NJ 08837 with 'The Apiary at BMC' noted in the memo line.
