Fifteen years ago, I crossed the finish line of the Philadelphia Marathon. It was an incredible experience, a test of endurance and mental toughness. Now, exactly 15 years later, I'm lacing up and setting out to finish another one, but this time, it's not just about personal accomplishment. I'm running the New York City Marathon to tackle a far greater challenge: childhood cancer.
I'm joining forces with my colleagues from Hackensack Meridian Health and I will personally fundraise $5,000 for Tackle Kids Cancer, a program that funds critical research and innovative treatments for children battling this devastating disease.
I'm not the same runner I was then. I'm 15 years wiser, hopefully a bit stronger (mentally, at least!), and definitely more aware of the impact we can have when we come together for a cause greater than ourselves. Every mile I run and every bridge I cross (five!) will be fueled by the hope of giving these young fighters a better chance at a healthy future.
