Four years ago, my best friend Katherine Danforth had surgery to remove a brain tumor the size of a tennis ball. After months of headaches, an MRI had revealed the pilocytic astrocycoma just the day before, leading to an emergency surgery for my then 12 year old niece. Fortunately, Katherine has an incredible team at Hackensack University Medical Center and the surgery was a success. Now 16, KK has been brain tumor free for four years and has been working to support the Children's Cancer Institute by raising money through Katherine's Fund.
