We decided to join with Hackensack Meridian John Theurer Cancer Center for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness and share our story.

So many of you rallied behind our family during the past year, and we are so grateful! Now, as we look ahead, it is our turn to pay it forward and help future breast cancer patients in their fight.

Our story is like so many: Nahomi started feeling pain in November 2020. After a self exam, she discovered a lump and the unimaginable started to unfold. After initial scans and ultrasound, then biopsy we received the news no one ever wants to hear - it was breast cancer. Nahomi was 32.

Upon diagnosis, we knew there was one place to turn - John Theurer Cancer Center. That first visit with Dr. Montgomery and team gave us the most hope we felt in weeks. Nahomi's prognosis was serious - triple negative breast cancer - but as Dr. Montgomery shared, "This is by no means a death sentence." Those words allowed us to breathe a sigh of relief.

As we went through the next several months, we were tested - chemo first to shrink the cancer, then surgery. At every turn, we knew we were not fighting alone - our family & friends, the doctors (Dr. McNamara as our oncologist), nurses and team at John Theurer Cancer Center. The compassion we felt kept us pushing forward. Literally every staff member we encountered was so kind and helpful.

This was one of the worst things you could possibly go through, but we did it with the best possible people.

Following our surgery in June, we were given the all-clear. The words we longed to hear for so long but are still in disbelief. This is when we knew we had to share our story and raise crucial funds for this work.

October now holds a double special meaning -
This October marks our 10-year wedding anniversary. It also represents Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

And we can think of no better way to rally our friends & family once again then to ask for their support.
