Carolyn A. Mahoney Memorial Scholarship Fund
Please join us in fundraising in support of The Carolyn A. Mahoney Memorial Scholarship Fund. Created to honor the memory of Carolyn A. Mahoney, this fund supports pharmacy-related scholarships at the various hospitals within the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) System.
Carolyn earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. During her career as a pharmacist, she also received certifications in (1) Basic Life Support, (2) Medication Therapy Management, (3) Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery, and (4) she was qualified as a NJ Consultant Pharmacist. Beginning in 1989, Carolyn worked as a pharmacist at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. After spending approximately 25 years at Riverview, she worked at the Jersey Shore University Medical and subsequently at Ocean University Medical Center from which she ultimately retired in January 2025. Carolyn was a diligent and dedicated pharmacist who worked within HMH for over 36 years.
The Carolyn A. Mahoney Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to outstanding pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, as well as any other HMH employee that would like to attend pharmacy school or further their pharmacy-related studies. These scholarships will be particularly beneficial to those individuals who face financial barriers in pursuit of their education. Awardees will include (but are not limited to) individuals who identify as an underrepresented minority, an individual with a disability, or someone with previous or current military service. Selected awardees should demonstrate superior communications skills, leadership, academic success, and a commitment to advocate for patient care as a top priority. Each awardee will receive an annual scholarship in the range of $200 to $1,000. Awardees should also have a spirit similar to that of Carolyn’s in the sense that she routinely treated patients (and nonpatients) with whom she interacted as if he or she were the most important person in the world. That mindset allowed Carolyn to form life-long friendships with individuals that she initially met in her role as a pharmacist. In any event, the purpose of this scholarship is to (1) reduce financial barriers for individuals in pursuit of a PharmD degree, as well as (2) providing education subsidies to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other allied health professionals working within the HMH system. Ideal candidates for this scholarship are those individuals who are committed to advocating for health equity and the well-being of patients and are steadfast relative to treating patients and everyone else with whom they interact with the dignity, respect, and kindness that is deserved.
Therefore, in loving memory of Carolyn, we are establishing the Carolyn A. Mahoney Memorial Scholarship to support pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other allied health professionals within HMH who share her passion for healthcare and helping others. Carolyn was a devoted pharmacist who believed in the power of education and mentorship. She was always eager to encourage and support those pursuing a career in pharmacy, and this scholarship will continue her legacy by assisting others in achieving their academic and professional dreams. Please note that with the help of supporters like you, the hospitals within the Hackensack Meridian Health System can continue to make strides in the community and improve the lives of the patients that they serve. Every dollar raised will have a positive impact. So, thank you in advance for supporting our team in raising funds for this important cause.
