The Chloe Belle Foundation x SOMC Oncology Fund Fundraiser (Spring/Summer 2023)
The Chloe Belle Foundation is thrilled to begin our second fundraiser with Southern Ocean Medical Center’s (SOMC) Oncology Fund as our recipient. This is a Spring/Summer fundraiser that will begin on May 24th 2023 and end on July 24th 2023. SOMC is located in Manahawkin, NJ, which is also considered the mainland of Long Beach Island, NJ. “Nearly 50 years ago, Hackensack Meridian Southern Ocean Medical Center was founded by a small group of committed residents on Long Beach Island who shared a dream to build a hospital” (HSH SOMC). The Chloe Belle Foundation chose SOMC Oncology Fund because as many of our incredible donors and supporters know, Long Beach Island (LBI) is very close to our hearts. Chloe, and her family, spent many happy years on LBI. To go back and spend time in LBI was a wish unfulfilled for Chloe as she got too sick to travel. In Summer 2021, shortly after Chloe’s death, Chloe’s family and friends banded together and raised enough money through GoFundMe to manufacture a Memorial Bench in honor of Chloe and place it right on the beach (on the Lindberg Family’s old block in Harvey Cedars). We raised above our goal amount and the rest of the money was donated to the nonprofit organizations, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Give Kids the World (over $550.00 went to both organizations). The success of this fundraiser was the inspiration for the creation of The Chloe Belle Foundation. It is only fitting that LBI would be a part of our second official TCBF fundraiser.
Of course, everything we do at TCBF is meant to support and push forward our mission: to help and bring joy to people with cancer (our focus being on young adults with cancer). “Southern Ocean Medical Center’s Oncology Fund supports the general and emergent needs of the Cancer Care Center at Southern Ocean Medical Center. A core team of oncology/hematology physicians, three dedicated nurse navigators and dozens of clinical support nurses and team members staff the Cancer Care Center at SOMC. Since its opening in 2016, patient volumes have skyrocketed. On average, over 300 patients a month receive over 2,000 infusions a month at SOMC. In addition, SOMC offers radiation therapy using TrueBeam linear accelerator, one of the fastest, most precise and low-dose radiation therapies available. Since its introduction in 2017, over 750 patients receive TrueBeam radiation each month” (HSH SOMC). Along with many rounds of chemotherapies in multiple forms, Chloe also went through radiation on her eye when the leukemia spread into her spine and created a tumor behind her eye. It is often an uncomfortable experience with a multitude of its own side effects. We are enthusiastic to support advancements in radiation therapy through this fundraiser. “Many oncology patients at SOMC comment that they are grateful for receiving their care close to home, without having to travel to New York or Philadelphia. The fact that there is a world-class Cancer Care Center here at SOMC is a great benefit to this community” (HSH SOMC). It was important to Chloe to be close to home during her cancer treatments and it is special to us that SOMC Cancer Center is available to the residents of LBI and Manahawkin.
You can donate to this fundraiser directly from this page. But we also have an exciting second way to make contributions... We launched a collection of merchandise, The Eighties Beach House Collection, based on Chloe’s Spotify playlist of the same name. It is available for purchase on our website (thechloebellefoundation.org). Some of the items proceeds (100% before tax, shipping and handling) will go directly to this fundraiser (other items proceeds will go to TCBF).
We hope that together, we can contribute to such a wonderful mission in a place that was not only so close to Chloe’s heart but also a place so a part of the creation of our entire foundation. Donating to our Spring 2023 Fundraiser for SOMC will help us in continuing our mission of helping people with cancer.
