In loving memory of Adriana Riano
So many of you knew Adriana and knew her story. To honor her memory, we are raising money in Adriana's name for the Everyone Needs a Nurse fund at Hackensack University Medical Center to encourage team members to pursue or further their nursing education. With funds raised we hope to help nurses just like Adriana, who was pursuing her masters and one test away from completing her NP degree.
For those of you not as close to her, we want to share a bit of her story:
Adriana was not just our co-worker, she was our dear friend. From the moment she walked into work, Adriana had a smile on her face, which was usually accompanied by a ridiculous story. She touched every single person she met and every person she worked with, with her infectious spirit and positive outlook on life. We often referred to her as the mayor of the hospital because she knew everyone's name.
Five years ago, Adriana was a trauma patient at Hackensack University Medical Center. She was determined not only to overcome her injuries but to come out stronger both mentally and physically. When she talked about her experience, she was always grateful for the care she received from the surgical ICU team and she strived to be the kind of nurse who could deliver that same exceptional care she received to her patients. We were privileged to watch her do so every day, in every encounter.
When she wasn't at work, Adriana was studying at Fairleigh Dickenson University for her Nurse Practitioner degree and was going to be the first person in her family to graduate with a master's degree in May 2019.
In recent months, our team had the joy of following her fitness quest and borderline obsession, by critiquing her before and after photos, watching her do push-ups in between rapid response calls, listening to her motivational affirmations and enjoying the smells of her heated up microwaved fish, which we already miss more than we ever thought possible.
Adriana was a motivator. She motivated everyone on our team to eat better and workout. She refused to let us take the elevators while at work. When moral was low at work, she made us listen to Tony Robbins motivational speeches. At the time, we may have rolled our eyes, but her motivation and positivity is what we will miss most.
Adriana's death was a profound loss to Hackensack Meridian Health and our Hackensack University Medical Center family, especially for our close-knit Rapid Response Team. She was more than a team player, she high fived nurses on the floor and never said no to anyone who asked her to do anything. She was a bright light, who brought joy and laughter to anyone who met her, including her patients.
In honor of her and who she was, please join us in making a gift to this fund in her name. This special remembrance is an outstanding way to honor Adriana for her career and dedicated service to her patients and as an exceptional nurse.
Any amount will go a long way in supporting our nursing scholarship fund and supporting nurses in Adriana's name. Help us remember her in this way and continue on her motivation to others. Thank you for supporting!
