Tennis for Life
Tennis for Life is an active support group for Breast Cancer Survivors, offering free, professional tennis instruction and support group sessions facilitated by its members. Our group is sponsored by the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Since its inception in 1999, several hundred Breast Cancer Survivors have benefited from this exceptional tennis/support group, which meets weekly in Bergen County at the Ridgewood Racquet Club and in Rockland County at the Match Point Tennis Club. Tennis for Life helps participants regain upper body strength and mobility, while building stamina, endurance and morale. After an hour of tennis, we gather for our meeting, which provides a forum to discuss cancer-related issues in a supportive atmosphere. We have guest speakers and programs that provide members with information and personal enrichment.
Tennis for Life is funded solely through donations, grants, and fundraising events organized by our members. Since this is a completely volunteer organization, our only expense is the cost of the courts and tennis pros. Our goal is to keep this program free for participants so it is accessible to everyone.
