Welcome to My Personal Page
On September 15th, I will be participating in the NICU STRONG Walk 2019. All money raised will support the vital equipment and patient and family needs of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Hackensack Meridian Health Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital.
I gave birth to my NICU graduate July 9, 2019. That morning, I had a doctors appointment and found out I was already 2cm dilated and sent straight to labor and delivery. Luckily, my doctor's office was adjacent to the hospital so we walked over. I was admitted for observation and to start treatments to hopefully stop labor. All seemed to be going well until around 3pm when I felt my water break and the contractions started coming fast and furious. By 7pm, James Stephen Quinn made his arrival 7 weeks early at 5lbs 7oz and 17 inches. There was about a dozen people in the room looking after him. They brought him up to my face for just a moment and then he was swept away to the NICU. It was another 3 hours before we were taken down to see him. He was intubated and all I could do was let him hold my finger. It was another 2 days before I finally got to hold him. After those first couple days, his respiratory condition continued to improve. About a week into his stay, he was moved to a step down room. My days were filled with trips to and from the NICU. Finally on August 8, James was discharged and we took him home!
There were so many wonderful nurses and doctors who did everything they could to take care of James and make us feel at ease. While it was heartbreaking to leave him there, we knew he was in the best care possible.
I decided to support this amazing cause because the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admits about 940 newborns each year, so the need is great for innovative treatment and care. Approximately 80 newborns weigh less than 1,500 grams (that is approximately 3lbs., 5oz!). To address their medical needs, the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital provides an array of services including hyper alimentation (intravenous nutrition), mechanical ventilation, body cooling for newborns and more for the best possible outcome and to help these newborns grow happy and healthy.
Please consider supporting me with a meaningful amount – $25, $50, $100 or any amount – will make a significant difference!
Thank you for your generosity and support. Together we can make a difference for these families and babies!
